Epic v. Apple: how the conflict is changing the rules for developers and publishers
Epic Games continues to secure victories in its long-running battle against Apple, which began back in 2020. Recently, Epic convinced the court to require Apple to ease restrictions for developers on iOS. What exactly happened, and how will it affect the mobile gaming and payment solutions industries? At the end of May, a US court decision reshaped the mobile gaming and payments industry. After four years of litigation, Epic Games secured a ruling that requires Apple to ease restrictions on iOS developers. This is not an isolated case. Similar developments are underway worldwide — from Australia to Japan. In Europe, the DMA has forced Apple to open its ecosystem to third-party app stores and payment systems, while in Japan a new law on third-party stores will come into effect at the end of the year.
On September 4, Futura Digital, together with Xsolla, will host a webinar to examine these changes from two angles:
- Legal — the progression of the case, key milestones in the US, Europe, and other regions, and current market implications.
- Business & technology — the impact on payment solutions and developer relations, and how third-party payments can help lower fees and improve LTV.
